Cosmetic Dentistry in Calgary: Transform Your Smile with Confidence
Dr. Wes Prepchuk handles the cosmetic work at Springbank Hill Dental: whitening, bonding, veneers, crowns, and clear aligners. He has completed thousands of crowns and fillings and more than 200 clear aligner cases over the past ten years, is certified in laser dentistry, and plans complex cases from CBCT imaging taken here at the clinic.
Cosmetic treatment starts with an examination, not a shade chart. Work placed over untreated decay or active gum disease fails, so we assess what is underneath before recommending anything. You will leave with a written plan priced against the Alberta Dental Association Fee Guide.
What Cosmetic Dentistry Covers
Cosmetic dentistry changes the colour, shape, size, or alignment of your teeth. In practice most treatment plans combine two or three of the options below, because the thing patients dislike about their smile is rarely a single tooth.
The realistic outcomes are these:
- Teeth several shades lighter
- Chips, worn edges, and small gaps closed
- Crooked or crowded teeth straightened
- Uneven or oddly shaped teeth reshaped
- Missing teeth replaced so the smile line is continuous
Cosmetic dentistry does not treat gum disease, decay, or a bite problem, though it often has to wait until those are dealt with.
We Check the Tooth Before We Change the Smile
Every cosmetic plan here starts with an examination and X-rays. There are two reasons for that, and both save you money.
The first is that veneers, crowns, and bonding placed over decay or active gum disease fail. The restoration comes loose, the margin leaks, or the gum recedes and exposes the edge. Fixing that costs more than treating the underlying problem would have.
The second is that some of what patients want changed is not a cosmetic problem at all. Worn front edges are often a grinding problem. Teeth that look too long are often gum recession. Treating the cause first produces a result that lasts.
Your Treatment Options
Professional Teeth Whitening
In-office whitening uses a stronger peroxide gel than anything sold over the counter, applied under a light-accelerated system in a single appointment. It lifts stains from coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco that strips and toothpastes cannot reach.
One thing worth knowing before you book: whitening only works on natural enamel. Existing crowns, veneers, and white fillings do not change colour, so if you have visible restorations on your front teeth they may need replacing afterwards to match. We will tell you at the consultation whether that applies to you.
Cosmetic Dental Bonding
Composite resin is shaped directly onto the tooth and hardened with a curing light, closing gaps and repairing chips, usually in one appointment. Bonding removes little or no healthy enamel, which makes it the most conservative cosmetic option available. It stains and chips more readily than porcelain, so it suits smaller corrections.
Veneers or Componeers
Veneers are thin porcelain shells bonded to the front of the teeth to change their shape, colour, and alignment. Placing them usually means removing a layer of enamel first, and enamel does not grow back, so a veneer commits that tooth to being veneered for life. That is a reasonable trade for the right case and the wrong one for a patient who could get most of the way there with whitening, bonding, or aligners. We will tell you which you are.
Dental Crowns
A crown caps a tooth that has lost too much structure to hold a filling, restoring both its shape and its full chewing strength. All-porcelain crowns give the best appearance on front teeth. Crowns are also used to protect a tooth after root canal treatment and to finish a dental implant.
Clear Aligners
ClearCorrect® and Invisalign® aligners straighten teeth using a series of clear removable trays instead of fixed brackets. Dr. Prepchuk is a certified provider for both systems and has treated more than 200 aligner cases. Each case is planned from a digital scan of your bite, and most treatments run 12 to 18 months. Straightening the teeth before whitening or veneers often reduces how much of either you need.
Dental Implants
An implant replaces a missing tooth root with a titanium post that fuses to the jawbone and carries a crown on top. Unlike a bridge, it preserves the bone underneath and does not require cutting down the neighbouring teeth. Dr. Prepchuk places Straumann implants and restores them at the same clinic.
What Does Cosmetic Dentistry Cost in Calgary?
Alberta has the highest dental fees in Canada, and most clinics will not quote a cosmetic case until you are sitting in the chair. Springbank Hill Dental follows the Alberta Dental Association Fee Guide, a public schedule that sets a standard price for every procedure in the province.
Cosmetic treatment is rarely covered by insurance, so you will usually be paying out of pocket. We give you a written plan with the full cost before any work starts, and payment plans are available for larger cases. Published costs for whitening, veneers, and crowns are on the site.
